Consistency is key!
Your health is a priority ! It’s essential to respect the engagement you took with yourself.
It’s often easier to reschedule or cancel a date you took with yourself when there’s no one to make you accountable. It’s one of the reasons why I like the concept of CrossFit or group classes so much. It’s undeniable that when you’re registered in a gym or a group class, the effect of the community naturally pushes you to be present and to surpass yourself.
Create a real engagement
- To start, find a way to be responsible. You can do so by choosing to train with your favorite sport partners or to opt for a group class. You can even share your program with colleagues, friends or other relatives who can also motivate you to follow through. For example, one of my clients had planned their activities and work schedules with his significant other around his training sessions. This automatically makes it difficult to make last minute changes without a valid reason when other people are involved. It’s essential to find people who will encourage and support you during your progress.
It should be pointed out that, whatever the activity you practice, it’s important to keep in mind your safety at all times.
Evaluate your progress
The biggest factor to maintain consistency is seeing results. The evaluation of your progress can be done in several ways:
- You can choose to do it with the calculation of your fat percentage, weekly photos of your body, your measurements or the calculation of your weight and your PRs (personal records) in training. You can even gauge this with a smaller pair of pants if you prefer. There are a multitude of relatively precise ways to quantify your first results. However, avoid at all cost relying solely on a scale as a reference since it’s not effective and representative of your progress !
- My personal recommendation is to consult with a coach regularly depending on your expectations and physical / nutritional health goals - I also meet some of my clients at frequent intervals to assess this-. This meeting helps to establish an action plan with a good training structure and/or food plan that is essential when the goals are set. Having professional support allows you to increase your level of commitment, to get help across the board and to keep a clear vision of your progress thanks to the analysis methods we use.
As a professional trainer myself, I also choose the expertise and services of a coach when it comes to my own training and personal development plan.
We shouldn't be afraid to ask for help. The involvement of others can provide you with the feeling of commitment that is necessary to achieve your goals. Trust me, it's your best investment !
Let’s go train!
